Fixing a Self-Winding Fake Rolex?
Yes so I have a self-winding fake Rolex I bought for really cheap in Egypt… as one would expect it does not work too well, and it does not self-wind very well. If you just wear it on your wrist then it will stop after between a few seconds and a few minutes and I was wondering if someone had a guide to opening this up and improving it like you would any other self-winding watch?
Fake Rolex are $10 watches regardless of what you paid for it. What you experienced is very typical. Seldom will any fake Rolex last more than a few months at best. That includes those that will be offered to you by the SPAMmers that will post answers to this question. They will claim personal experience with the vendor, even though the site has only been up a month or a few.
First of all the movements are made of pot metal, and most contain no lubricants. That is why they fail quickly when the metal parts grind together. They are mounted in a plastic ring.
I collect and repair watches. I own a Rolex case tool. I have found that most fake Rolex have glue on the threads of the case back. It is almost impossible to remove the back without breaking the watch. If you pay about $50-$120 for the removal tool, you could get lucky, and the case back might not be glued. You can buy a movement online and replace the one in the watch.

You will have to install the movement and re-assemble the watch. This is not a job for an armature. You must have the correct tools.
If you are successful you will have a fake Rolex that will last perhaps a five years (much longer than the original cheap $2 movement that came with it). However the bracelet and case of a fake Rolex is really cheap. They will eventually corrode and/or turn your wrist black or green. Most may contain toxic materials because there is no other cheap way to dispose of the waste metals in China. They make them into cheap jewelry for export.
