How Do I Remove the Winder From My Watch?

I have a cheap TAG copy that has stopped working. I have been quoted £40 by horologist just to look at it with no guarantee of repair. As it cost very little to buy, I would like to have a go at fixing it myself but don’t know how to take off the winder knob on the side to allow me to remove it’s innards. Any ideas?

The winder knob may be a push fit onto the shaft, Try warming it very quickly, so you don`t warm the shaft, with a small blowtorch.

Normally the BACK comes off. Use a knife blade between the back and body of the watch. Tap it in with a small hammer if necessary (CAREFULLY).
You should now be able to see the works and replace the battery if needed.

There will be a groove in the shaft, and a small piece of spring steel (normally screwed to the mechanism body) which springs down into the groove.

You have to gently lift the piece of spring steel (or undo the screws holding it), so that it is lifted out of the groove on the shaft.

Once it is out of the groove on the shaft, the shaft can slide out.
