Replicas are not illegal, if they don’t actually try and hide that fact.

Replica watches that purport to be other brands or present themselves as "Swiss" or "Swiss Made" when they are not are illegal and in breach of international trademark laws.

Price is no guide to quality. A replica watch will not perform as well as a genuine watch, and in many cases will become unreliable and unusable soon. You cannot make any assumptions about the quality of the workmanship or materials used, since the sellers are, by definition, dishonest traders. They lie for a living. Their brands have no reputation other than the implied reputation of the brand they pretend to be.

By buying fake goods you are contributing to a trade which also sells fake medicines to people who need real ones, you undermine genuine businesses and, at the end of the day, you’re a phoney yourself if you knowingly pretend a fake is real.

Why not just buy a decent watch? if you want a good cheap mechanical Swiss watch, buy Tissot. There are some competent American brands of mechanical watch, some using genuine Swiss movements. There are also a bunch of far more accurate and stylish quartz watches that tend to come much cheaper.

The only time that is illegal is if it is being sold fraudulently as ‘the real thing’.
