Mothers, How Would You React if You Found Out Your 18 Year-Old Son Was a Hitman?

I’m working on a story, and I have The Reveal coming up soon, where the mom comes home to find her son sittiing on the couch like normal, but today he forgot to keep his jacket on over his wifebeater shirts. The mother (Anna) sees the scars up and down his arms and hands. She asks him what’s wrong, has he been cutting? Does he need help?
The son, Isaac, calmly says no, he’s not cutting. It’s perfectly fine, he’s got a handle on the situation.
Anna is starting to worry because she knows that her son is lying to her. She asks him again, calmly. "It’s okay, we can talk this over… we can get you self-help if you don’t want to go to a Pscyiatric Ward."
Issac laughs. "You don’t get it do you? Coming home late, doing my own laundry and using all the bleach, the fact that I’ve never asked for an allowance?"He stands up and picks up the knife sitting on the coffee table. "I’m a hitman, have been since I was fourteen.
"There’s a voice in my head, tells me t’kill. Do you remember… when I was little and I had nightmares about the man who kept talking to me and wouldn’t let me sleep? /He was real, Mother./"
"How did you get those scars, honey?"
Issac smiled, tossing the knife up in the air and catching it, then drawing the blade across his shoulder, criss-crossing one of the many older scars he had. "Watch."
Anna stared in horror as the blood began to trickle out of the wound. After a sizable amount had flowed, staining his entire upper arm, Isaac held his hand up and the blood stopped flowing. He flicked his wrist, and the blood lifted itself off his arm and floated in the air, forming a small sphere the size of a fist. "Watch the pretty red circle, Mommy,"
Issac flicked his wrist and the blood shot forward, splattering into the kitchen sink. "Drown them in blood, watch them claw at their throat, aspyxiate, blood, plasma, oxygen. Over and over again, the Voice in my head whispered that to me as a kid. But you… you said it was fake. You said that is was just a dream."
===
And right about there, I get stuck. I don’t reallly know how a mother would react to all this. I’ve tried having her freak out, but then Isaac’s Voice takes over and kills her (can’t have that, she’s still plot-significant!) or else she breaks down mentally and just sits there staring for the next few hours.

    I think most adults’ first thought would be that the child was schizophrenic. It’s not really the behavior of a hitman–a character usually known for an extremely cool facade, an ability to keep secrets, a talent at hiding the truth, blending in, and appearing to be entirely normal–but it reads precisely like someone who has had a psychotic break.

    So, based on this passage, and your desire to not have her freak out, I see the mother responding in 1 of 2 ways, depending on her personality. If she is a take-charge, even-tempered sort of woman, she would excuse herself and call an ambulance, requesting to have the son committed. If she is not, she would probably run away in fear, given the way he is throwing around the knife, talking like a lunatic, and also making his blood levitate, which seems pretty strange. In general though, most mothers would ignore the floating blood and call for an ambulance, since he is cut, self-harming, and talking like a lunatic.

    Of course, if the mother is somewhat unbalanced herself (a possibility, given her calm "How did you get those scars, Honey?" comment after being told that a voice in her son’s head has told him to kill, and he has been killing for 4 years) she might accept this very calmly and possibly buy into everything he says, becoming his protector and helper. The "a boy’s best friend is his mother" scenario.

    I think the guy progresses a bit too quickly, you should add a reason to why he suddenly sparks at his mum. I think she should freak out a bit, back away and he should be like haha dont be scared etc etc. BUT havin said that, personally i would kick his ass.
